================================================================================ FRICTION ON A SLOPE ================================================================================ Friction on a Slope is something I've considered my best work in terms of worldbuilding and plot. There are two “races” on one continent, with humans being on another. I must admit, I haven’t worldbuilt a lot for humans since the idea of Friction on a Slope takes place on a single continent. I know it's cliché, but the two are “Devils” and “Angels”. !!!THEY BARE NO SIMILARITIES TO OUR IDEAS OF DEVILS AND ANGELS!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Angels are just named that way as in the past, they didn’t betray a certain unnamed individual. Devils are the opposite, they are the same species obviously. (Kinda like how an Asian person is the name race as a White guy.) Simply put the distinction between Angels and Devilsis socially constructed rather than biological The entire world is called Masis, and the story follows 5 protagonists. Obviously, there are a lot of side characters, but I wanted to force myself to only write from the POV of 5 people. They are as follows: Keila, Fyl, Vyker, Fia, Eyron. Keila, Fia are both devils, with the rest being Angels. The main plot of FoaS is about a “terroristic” organisation called Venation, attempting to break the idea of living divided. Fyl, in the past, was in another organisation that was an attempt to overthrow the royals in power in his country (Angel territory), but found out how they were both working together with Devils (Whom they were supposed to hate) to either gain more influence over the common person, or wealthy business owners would just collaborate with each other. Whilst they portrayed the other race as enemies of the state. FYI, Venation is not peaceful. They dont go out of their way to kill people but if need be for "no witnesses" or something like that, they will. Plus they have done a lot of destruction such as blowing up parts of buildings and whole ones as well. I more interpreted venation doing violence as them being in a system which doesnt allow them to make changes peacefully. Fyl then came to the same conclusion as them, working together with Angels to overthrow the royals, he wanted to instill a state that accepted both as equals. Keila joins Venation later but notably before, he is compromised by Eyron (Angel), a wealthy son of a businessman. Although it’s revealed that Eyron's father doesn’t like Devils, and the idea of working with them disgusts him. Therefore, their family went from one of the richest to the poorest of the nobility as Angels began working with Devils for more money/influence. Eyron wants to take control of his business and control Venation into harming his opponents and gathering support and influence through them. Fia (Devil) is a detective who is trying to find the mastermind behind Venation (which is Eyron), notably a LESBIAN!!!!! (xd). She is well renowned for being a genius, and has expressed permission to cross into Angel territory (with HEAVY restrictions, usually hiding identity). I imagine the dynamic is sort of like L and Light, but they only meet occasionally, and Eyron knows it’s Fia who’s really smart and constantly trips him up. Vyker (Angel) is just some old guy who falls in love with a non-binary Devil. Obviously he does more, but he’s mainly to see the Angel side of the police/government. (He is more fleshed out, but I can't explain as it will spoil) Keila (Devil) is the most important part of the story, she is a genius (a lot of them I know) mechanic. Who cracks the first 3-cell battery (can’t be bothered to explain, just imagine a battery that can power anything whilst being small) which then plugs into suits making them far more powerful. (Suits are kinda like Robot exosuits (google it) which help with more demanding tasks and are notably used in the military. Without her Venation would have fallen as eventually both governments realise Venation isn’t funded by the opposing country/nation. So they begrudgingly work together. This also is a win for Fyl BTW since it's made public about the collaboration. Keila is a twin, which is BANNED in both nations due to the child usually having birth defects, which Keila does. She needs medicine all the time, (which ends up being banned as it's a hallucinogen). She joins Venation out of hatred as her twin sister Rue (Who was essentially non-verbal and braindead, but kept alive) was murdered by Angels. Yet it's covered by Devils. Which she hates even more. (Oh yeah, I realised a while back that it sounds like I'm someone who believes in pro-life, I'm pro-choice. JUST BECAUSE KEILA REVOLUTIONISED THE WORLD WITH HER 3-CELL BATTERY DOESN'T MEAN HER ENTIRE LIFE OF SUFFERING AND PAIN IS JUSTIFIED.) The idea of Keila came from the idea of how intersex people get treated in our world. Online, I've seen a cis man get attacked for "being trans" just because they were born intersex and had more feminine features, despite being born a man and identifying as such. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friction on a Slope is the favourite thing I've ever made.
